Has any SEO expert or content writer ever told you "don't worry too much about quality. These articles are for search engines, not human readers"? If they did, it's probably time to find another vendor. It may be true that in the short term, any content with relevant keywords and passable language will help you draw traffic. However, you should never forget that while your SEO expert has learned how to manipulate search engines results, the search engines themselves are also getting smarter by the day. In fact, there was a time when people could draw large traffic through link farms, invisible text, and many other black hat SEO techniques. However, as you already know, search engines caught wind of those activities, became smarter, and learned to overcome those limitations. To make a long story short, if you wish to continue to receive traffic from search engines over the long term, the only option you have is to publish relevant and good- quality content which the "readers" find interesting. You see, search engine giants are spending billions of dollars to present readers with the most relevant search results. And they're getting better at it every day. Soon, they'll be able to weed out all the bad-quality stuff and leave those websites in a cyberspace blackhole. When that happens, the only websites that will survive are the ones that provide quality content and products to their visitors. In fact even before that happens, it's logical to believe that once a visitor is on your website, your content is all that matters. If it can hold the visitor back, you win, otherwise, you lose. Sure, letting the user have options like commenting on the post, easily bookmarking the article, or options to forward that page to their friends will obviously make users' experience better and help you retain them. Link building activities and advertising will also help you attract an audience on your blogs. However, before you do any of that, the first step is to ensure that you have something valuable to offer to those readers your marketing activities bring to your website. And that's where you wouldn't want to be stingy. Good content will increase subscriptions on your websites and provide you with a database of hundreds of potential customers -- an asset way more valuable than the money you've spent on acquiring it. No industry is ever perfect when it first begins. And content writing, SEO, and SEM as major channels for driving customers too have only recently gained popularity. Therefore, there may be many shortcuts that professionals have learned and are making use of, however, these are the kind of things that cause all bubbles to eventually burst. It happened with the IT industry, the financial markets, and guess what, the content business is no different! Stick to the basics, and give your customers what they deserve -- information that is valuable to them presented in a manner that makes them want to return. |
